Character Movement values do not reset to defaults. Changing a value and then using the arrow to Reset to Default updates the number displayed in the Details panel, but the value does not update during PIE. Closing the editor and restarting the project does not resolve the issue.
Tested with multiple values, including Jump Z Velocity and Gravity Scale as mentioned in the AnswerHub post.
Reproduced in 4.7.2 binary and Main (//depot/UE4/Promotable-CL-2471062)
1. Open a new First Person Shooter template project
2. Open the FirstPersonCharacter Blueprint
3. Select the CharacterMovement component
4. Change the Gravity Scale to -1000
5. Compile and Save
6. PIE
7. Jump (note the insane jump)
8. Click the arrow beside Gravity Scale to return the value to its default (1.0)
9. Compile/Save
10. PIE
11. Jump
Result:
The Gravity Scale during PIE remains -1000, despite the Details panel showing 1.0.
