Description

Dithering appears aggressive and has a screen door-like effect when using the new Landscape Lightmap in combination with Foliage LOD changes.

Owen Stupka attempted to reproduce the issue on his iPad Pro and was unsuccessful, but Matthew Clar was able to reproduce the issue on the iPhone 6s.

As Jack P. mentioned, "I'm guessing it's a UV or Z precision issue unique to iOS Metal. I don't think it's necessarily the same as [Link Removed] as it seems to be specific to landscape grass + lightmap sharing."

There is a helpful video the user provided that shows the issue occurring on their iPad Pro.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open attached project

  • for 4.14 and earlier, [Link Removed]
  • for 4.16 you need a modified version to fix the dithered transitions: [Link Removed]
    2. Launch to an iOS device that supports Metal (Tested on iPad Pro and iPhone 6s).
    3. Fly around the scene.

Outcome Screen door-like effect when transitioning between LODs

Expected The dithering is minimally observable when changing between LODs.
