Description

In Unreal Engine 5.5 and earlier, users could select “None” as the Preview Game Language in the Editor Preferences.

Starting from UE 5.6, this “None” option is no longer available.

Based on source code comparison, a change was introduced in SPreviewGameLanguageComboButton, likely related to CL 41090441, where a combo box has been improved for better copy/paste functionality. As a side effect, the handling of the “None” entry was unintentionally removed.

However, the “None” option still exists in the UMG Editor (via the globe icon). Users can turn-off the globe icon and disable the preview language. This creates an inconsistency between the Editor Preferences and UMG Editor behavior.

Note:

  • Workaround: Use a globe icon in UMG editor to disable the preview language
  • In earlier versions (prior to CL41090441), selecting “None” was possible, but it did not explicitly disable Game Localization Preview — the system was in a state where Preview Language = None while Game Localization Preview = Enabled.
Steps to Reproduce

1. Launch Unreal Editor 5.6 with a project having localization, like Lyra
2. Open Editor Preferences > Region & Language → Preview Game Language.
3. Try selecting “English"
4. Click the combo box again to revert it to "None"

Expected Result: “None” should be available in the combo box.

Actual Result: “None” option is missing, making it impossible to disable the preview language from Editor Preferences.
